10 Must-Dos in Sydney if You’re Staying for 7 Days

Sydney is a huge city and you can’t expect to see everything in only one week. However, if you only have 7 short days in wonderful Sydney, there are a few things you simply must do, see and experience. Here are your must-dos in the biggest city in Australia.

Have a walking tour

Walking tours are truly a great way to get familiar with a city, so make sure to find a good (and free) walking tour that will take you through Sydney. Tours like I’m Free start every day from the Town Hall and take its guests to places like Observatory Hill, Martin Place and many little hidden bars and restaurants.

Check out Circular Quay

Let’s be real, seeing the Opera House from afar won’t do. So, if you want to experience this iconic building from up close, hit Circular Quay where you can see many ferries speeding the bay and even run into a massive cruise ship! Follow the quay to the Opera House and get plenty of photos. The place is busy but super fun.

Stroll the botanic gardens

Right next to the Opera House you will find Sydney’s gorgeous gardens. Royal Botanic Gardens are full of stunning greenery, but they are also home to many fun events. This is truly a perfect spot to relax, soak up some sun and watch people.

Stay at a place full of history

Once you get tired of your Sydney exploration, it’s time to retire for the night. While there are many places in the city you can stay, it’s best to pick a spot rich with history. For instance, you can easily find a gorgeous boutique hotel in Sydney that will offer all the comfort you need, but also make you feel like you’re a part of Sydney’s history. Some places date from the 19th century and despite renovation, still have that Victorian charm.

Get familiar with Aussie marine life

If you love playful fish and colorful marine flora, check out SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. This is a great place to visit with kids because there’s so much you can learn about the Australian ocean, river and estuarine wildlife. Plus, the aquarium is placed right next to Circular Bay which means you can easily visit this great place.

Do some retail therapy

Sydney is a great place for shopping, especially the Queen Victoria building. Even though it almost got knocked down and turned into a garage, today this gorgeous structure is the ‘it’ spot when it comes to shopping in Sydney. No matter if you’re big on splurging or can’t afford anything from the stores, you simply need to see this amazing building.

Chill out at Hyde Park

Like New York and London, Sydney has its own Hyde Park perfect for relaxation and a break from the city crowds. You can pack some food and have a nice little picnic before visiting Anzac Memorial and St Mary’s Cathedral in the middle of the park.

Check out Sydney from above

If you love to see your destination from above, then you must hit Sydney Tower to get the best birds-eye view of the place. This is Sydney’s tallest building and it offers a 360-degree view of the city. The best time to visit the tower is in the sunset when you can watch the day turns into night right in front of your eyes.

Visit the Blue Mountains

If you love all things nature, you need to leave one day for exploring Blue Mountains National Park a few hours from Sydney. It’s heaven for hikers and photographers because you’ll be able to see many amazing views and snap one-of-a-kind photos. You can also explore the cute country towns nestled in the Mountains and meet locals.

Hit the beach

You just can’t leave Sydney before visiting its famous beaches. Chilling at Bondi or Coogee is a perfect way to end your seven-day adventure and soak up the final little breath of Sydney atmosphere. You can also take a 6 km hike from Bondi to Coogee and snap a few good-bye photos!

Sydney is truly a place full of adventure and beauty you can’t really see in only a week. But, these 10 must-see spots will definitely show you what’s Sydney about and why you need to come back to this gorgeous harbor city.
